Curry Boys BBQ Has Opened a Second Location – And It’s YUM!
It seems that whatever the Curry Boys BBQ chefs and owners Andrew Ho, Sean Wen, and Andrew Samia put their hands to, turns to absolute gold. What started as a tiny, bright pink, pandemic era food counter, and has now evolved into one of San Antonio’s heavy hitting culinary forces.
As both one of San Antonio’s best restaurants as well as one of the best BBQ restaurants, Curry Boys BBQ is truly something special. And with a highly successful St. Mary’s strip restaurant, two James Beard award nominations (2023 and 2024), and a rabid local following, Curry Boys has now expanded into its second location.
Curry Boys BBQ (part two), located at the intersection of Stone Oak Parkway and Hardy Oak, is a MUCH welcome addition to the somewhat lacking food landscape of the Stone Oak neighborhood.
Opening Day at Curry Boys Stone Oak
I visited on opening day to see how true to its roots this second Curry Boys location would be. Thankfully, it looks to be as true as the original, though perhaps without some of its pink exterior charm (don’t worry, the indoor ordering counter is as pink as it comes).
Like the original, guests to Curry Boys Stone Oak order at the counter, take a number, and then the food is brought to the table. The menu at the Stone Oak location is identical to the original and both the Brisket Smoke Show (oak-primed brisket from South BBQ & Kitchen, and green curry) as well as the Tony Porker (oak-smoked pulled pork and Penang curry) were as good (straight up FIRE, actually) as the original. Food, check!
In addition to this, service was fast. One of the owners was onsite and chatting with customers. Prices were affordable. And the genius of barbecue and curry is still as genius as the day it debuted. Check, check, check!
In short, location #2 is nearly an exact replica of location #1 in all ways but the pink building.
Curry Boys BBQ Stone Oak does have one major advantage over and above its predecessor: the parking situation. Parking on the St. Mary’s strip has long been a nightmare. It’s mostly street parking and often fills up fast. Throw in the years of construction that left the area a mess, and heading to a restaurant on the strip takes some planning and strategy, as well as some serious walking.
But the Stone Oak location offers generous parking in the lot at the strip mall where Curry Boys is located. No hunting for spots required and no hiking from blocks away.
You can park right outside the restaurant and be inside and enjoying your curry in a matter of minutes. At least for now, that is. I can’t promise things won’t change once the Stone Oak residents realize what just moved in. Best go now before the crowds show up and the lines form. I know I plan to.
Curry Boys BBQ Stone Oak is located at 19903 Stone Oak Pkwy, Ste. 101, San Antonio, TX 78258. They are open every day from 11am to 10pm.
