The DoSeum – Kids Museum In San Antonio
The DoSeum in San Antonio is one of my favorite places to take my kids. It's not really a museum. Of course, it's in the name, but this San Antonio children's museum is essentially an epic play place that has sneaky hands-on learning incorporated. Meaning kids don't realize they're learning, because they're just doing. Which happens to be the best way to spark interest in learning. Well done embracing the power of play, San Antonio.
Imagine 68,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space, including a musical staircase, a tinkering studio, a spy academy, a "little town" with child-sized stores and cars, plus 39,000 square feet of outdoor exhibit play space with LEED-certified play spaces and beautiful gardens and pathways.
Needless to say, it's a pretty phenomenal place. It's no surprise that my kids beg to come back here again and again.
Best Exhibits at The DoSeum
Of course, the best way to explore the DoSeum is to let curiosity lead the way and allow your young ones to explore the interactive fun however they want! But here are a few of my personal favorite parts of the DoSeum
Little Town
Your youngest learners are going to love this place! It's an entire "town" built to child scale. It includes a Whataburger, a car wash (with a real car!), an airplane exhibit with seats and a ticket counter and a security machine, and an H-E-B grocery store, complete with shopping baskets, shelves of food, and multiple check-out counters.
It's designed for 5 year olds and under (including a baby crawling area that has a safety gate around it), but both kids' minds and adults' minds are going to freak out a bit about how fun this area is.
Force Course
Force Course is one of the most popular exhibits at The DoSeum! Little ones LOVE this area! Of course, it's actually designed to explore the scientific concepts of force and motion, but the joy of learning through doing just means that this exhibit is FUN!
It's essentially a bunch of small, light plastic balls that kids can whiz through tunnels that are powered by wind.
Sensations Studio
You can insert the plastic balls on one side of the exhibit and it will zoom out at the opposite ends. It's fun for all ages!
Sensations Studio
Sensations Studio is a very cool exhibit at the DoSeum! It encourages children to explore with light and sound.
There's a light/UV lab, where the youngest guests can see how different colors react to different shades of light. And then older kids can play DJ at the sound/FX station, where they can actually mix their own music tracks!

Outdoor Area
The outdoor area could honestly be its own museum. If the weather is nice, you could easily spend a full day playing here!
Explore a monarch garden, a 30-foot German-engineered climbing structure, a treehouse, a water feature (which is great for these hot Texas summers!), a sandscape with toys and sand and art pieces, and a place to play with and create soap bubbles. There is SO much to do outdoors!
Of course, in the hottest parts of the Texas summers (we're talking 105-degree temps) you probably won't even want to play in the outdoor stream. But for the majority of the year, the outdoor space at The DoSeum is an excellent place for children of all ages to run and explore and learn.
FAQ About The Doseum
How much do tickets cost?
Admissions are $16 for every guest. Children under the age of 1 are free. The museum charges the same rate for all children over the age of 1, and this is most likely because the museum is designed for these children! So it doesn't make sense to give free admission to children when the entire place is actually designed for them.
Do I have to make a reservation?
No, you can purchase tickets at the front desk. But if you're visiting on a crowded day (like a Saturday morning or a school holiday), you should probably make reservations online in advance.
Does the DoSeum have free parking?
Yes! Their entire lot is free!
Does the DoSeum have any free days?
The DoSeum is very generous and offers a FREE night for families on the first Monday of every month. You have to go to this page where they'll post a reservation link at 8 am the morning of the free family night. It's first come, first served, and an RSVP is required. Put it on your calendar to RSVP first thing in the morning when the link comes out, because this always fills up fast!
