Hill Country Wine With An Urban Twist: Meet Re:Rooted Winery In San Antonio

As a Texas native, I’ve had plenty of trips to Texas wine country to sip wine in Driftwood, Fredericksburg, and beyond. The Texas wine scene is among the fastest growing in the country. It’s now ranked 5th in production, behind California, Washington, Oregon, and New York. Texas wine  is quickly growing in quality and variety, and it’s amazing to be able to sip wine in beautiful vineyards that are just a few hours from home. And now you don’t even have to drive far at all; Re:Rooted winery in San Antonio brings their Texas wine to the middle of the concrete jungle. This wine bar in downtown San Antonio is bringing the hill country to us.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

Re:Rooted opened in the vibrant food and drink community in the heart of Hemisfair, which was home to the 1968 World’s Fair in San Antonio. They offer a unique concept: wine on tap. This means customers can stop by and enjoy a single glass, a carafe for the table, a tasting flight…or even a growler of wine to bring home or enjoy on the grassy lawn of Hemisfair.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

Where Does Re:rooted Source Their Grapes?

100% of the fruit used to make their wine is sourced from the Texas Hill Country and Texas High Planes AVAs. They only use Texas grapes, which makes this San Antonio winery incredibly unique. All of their wine is made at their production facility in Fredericksburg - they produce and barrel age all of their wine at Sale Mill Wine Collection, and it's transported to the urban oasis of Hemisfair and served in the modern tasting room.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

Why Does Re:rooted Use Kegged Wines?

There are a lot of advantages to using kegs to serve wine! They use Petainer kegs, which are a sustainable, eco-friendly way to transport wine. Average wine bars produce a huge amount of waste that needs to be composted, recycled, or disposed of in the form of kegs, glass bottles, and other packaging...but Re:Rooted drastically reduces its carbon footprint by transporting and serving their wine in kegs.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

Another perk is that they're able to keep the quality high by reducing wine spoilage and broken bottles. Quality control is a big component of any bar that serves beverages from kegs (wine, beer, sake, kombucha...anything!) and Re:Rooted proves time and time again that they care for the quality of their tap lines, kegs, and ultimately, the wine drinker's experience in the bar.

Re:rooted Has A Somm On Staff!

One of the most impressive parts of this San Antonio urban wine bar is their commitment to wine education. This is one of the few wine bars in San Antonio that has a full-time certified wine educator on staff. Sommelier Jennifer Beckmann is a force in the Texas wine industry with more than a decade of experience opening wine bars, consulting businesses, and educating TX industry professionals and wine drinkers.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

Whether you're a casual wine drinker who simply wants a nice glass of cold rosé on a hot summer evening, or you have a sophisticated palate and you want to discuss tasting notes and details, I've found that Re:Rooted in San Antonio really can meet each wine drinker on their own personal journey.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

The interior is modern and beautiful; the interior design leans modern and industrial, with modern lighting, cement floors, and black accents. There's a cozy couch in the corner and a small outdoor patio, but you can also take your wine to-go and enjoy it out by the park or the fountains in Hemisfair.

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

The wine selection is diverse and the staff is friendly and helpful. They have food options on the menu, special wine education events and pairing dinners, and an incredible location at Hemisfair. (Psst: Hemisfair is also home to some other fantastic places to eat and drink.)

Re:Rooted Urban Winery

I absolutely love this Re:rooted winery in San Antonio. It's an excellent spot to stop by with a friend for an evening of wine, cheese or charcuterie. I love to grab a glass of Albariño or their Viognier and sip it slowly on a warm San Antonio day.

Parking: you can park at Hemisfair garage on Hemisfair Blvd. As long as you spend at least $10 at Re:rooted, they'll validate your parking for you.
