Boozy Brunch In San Antonio: Blush Restaurant
There's a common question that has come up often in my years and years of food blogging, and that is: "where can I go for a really good boozy brunch?" Whether it's for a San Antonio bachelorette party, a brunch baby shower spot, or just a festive get-together with a few friends on a Saturday morning, there's nothing quite as celebratory as toasting a beautiful cocktail and diving into a plate of fluffy pancakes with berry compote and whipped cream. If you're looking for an excellent boozy brunch in San Antonio, be sure to go to Blush Restaurant.
I went with Sara, a fellow writer here at The San Antonio Things. She made reservations for a weekday at 10 am, but it really wasn't necessary...the crowds starting rolling in at 11 am. (Turns out 10 am is considered "early" for brunch, even on a Tuesday.)
The interior is #wallpapergoals.
Give me all the wall paneling and wallpaper, please.
Worth note: both the indoor restaurant, the outdoor patio, and the next-door bakery are absolutely darling. This is the type of restaurant you'd want to attend with your BFFs, your mother-in-law, your best girlfriends, your baby shower brunch party, etc. It's just so cute!
Boozy San Antonio Brunch Drinks At Blush
The brunch menu is pretty robust. Your server will point you in the right direction depending on what you normally crave in terms of brunch cocktails. There's a significant mimosa menu (so fun!) and a bunch of sweet, fizzy, fruity cocktails, as well as a section of frozen cocktails and a section of Boilermakers...perfect for that bachelorette brunch in San Antonio when you want to get shots for the table and start the party ASAP!
Here's a highlight of the brunch cocktail menu:
I Know Bubbles
Ketel One, Cucumber And Strawberry Shrub, Grapefruit, Sparkling Rose
Queen Park
Rum, Pineapple Soda, Lime, Genepy And Bitters
Paloma Nueva
Tequila, Mescal, Aperol, Lime And Grapefruit Soda
Frozen Mexican
Cazadores, Cinnamon Vanilla Liquor, Soft Serve, Milk, Coffee Cordial
Bliss In A Kiss
Mango, Coconut And Bubbles
Once you choose a cocktail (or two), you're going to have a hard time picking the appetizers and entrees that look best. I did! I truly just wanted one of everything.
If you want a sampler of the delicious bread that they bake next door in the bakery, go for the Bread Basket {Fresh Selection Blush Bakery Breads, House Cultured Butter, Seasonal Compote.}
Of course, Blush is kind of famous for their ability to add caviar to...everything. There's a Caviar Canapé, Caviar for 2, and even Taters and Caviar (YEP! caviar on your tater tots) at this adorable brunch spot in San Antonio.
Brunch Entrees at Blush
Something I appreciate about this place is that the brunch entrees aren't huge. Quality over quantity, you know? I don't need 4 pancakes the size of my face + 8 strips of bacon + a pound of potatoes for breakfast.
Blush creates little pieces of art with every brunch entree. Similar to the rest of the menu, the main menu gave us some trouble simply because we had to actually just choose something.
The Creme Brûlée French Toast was lovely. It literally tasted like I was breaking through the crackly, delicate shell of a pot of creme brûlée for dessert. The sugar was perfectly caramelized, the brioche was all fluff, and the berries were fresh.
But the best surprise was the bed of brown butter crumble that the toast was resting on. This. Was. Awesome. It was all soft and crunchy at the same time, with some sweetness and salt to it. The best of everything.
Of course, I had to try part of my brunch date's entree, too! The King Williams Benedict {Sous Vide Short Rib, Focaccia, Poached Eggs, House Pickle, Hollandaise} was lovely.
Just like the French toast, it was the perfect amount of food. We both finished out plates clean and felt satisfied without being overly stuffed. No post-brunch naps necessary.
When you're finished with your meal, you can go next door to Blush Bakery and get a few pastries to bring home. They have this amazing banana bread topped in a chocolate ganache, and it is TO DIE FOR.
Parking: since Blush is located in Southtown, just on the outskirts of downtown San Antonio, you might be able to manage to get a free 2-hour street parking spot. And if not, there are plenty of surface lots nearby with paid parking available.
Reservations: Like I mentioned, we really didn't need the 10 am reservation on a weekday. However, this place is still pretty new and it might get more crowded as it becomes more established in San Antonio. (It's really good, so odds are it starts to get more crowded as the summer tourism season kicks in!)
However, my best guess is that you'll need a reservation if you decide to go for a Saturday or Sunday brunch. San Antonio brunch spots are getting more and more plentiful, but the good ones do seem to get pretty crowded on the weekends.
